This is a recording of a two-hour workshop presented on 2/16/2022 on Neurodivergence, Sex, and Sensory Processing.

Sex is an incredibly complex occupation.

Neurodivergent people are sexual beings.

So… why are we not talking more about neurodivergent needs for sex?

There are many reasons, but most are rooted in ableism and shame surrounding sex. It’s time to shed that stigma.

Let’s start the conversation!

Participants of this presentation will:

  • Have knowledge on occupational therapy
  • have an overview of the Occupational Therapy Sexual Assessment Framework
  • Be introduced to the main concepts of Winnie Dunn’s sensory model
  • Be informed on thresholds (low/high) and sensory strategies (active vs. passive) and how it relates back to sexuality and intimacy
  • Explore the intersectionalities between neurodivergence, sexuality and intimacy
  • Explore the barriers experienced by neurodivergent individuals to occupational engagement with regards to sexuality and general health

This workshop is being presented by Sarah Selvaggi Hernandez (The Autistic OT), JJ Soros (OT After Dark), and Romina Lynn Reyes. All three presenters are neurodivergent and come with a vast array of experience and insight. While this workshop is geared towards occupational practitioners, all are invited to attend. Certificates of attendance will be issued; check with your local associations for CEU requirements.
